early German state coinage from which the word dollar is derived, by
David E. In the 16th and 17th centuries, beautiful and ornate thalers
dominated the silver currency of Germany.
-
November 9, 2023 - The table topic was Sports, and there were seven
displays. The educational program was Dan V.
on "Civil War Coinage." Over the years Dan has become an authoritative expert on all
things related to the Civil War so this should have been a very informative presentation.
-
October 12, 2023 - The table topic was Aviation. The educational
presentation was David H. on "Spanish Colonial Cobs: A Most Unlikely Collectible."
-
September 14, 2023 - The table topic was Native Culture. The

attended, only four members, each of whom had a table topic display.
The displays included reptiles, for example the famous Mexican
eagle/snake emblem on its coinage, but also new acquisitions such as
an 1861 banknote from the Timber Cutter's Bank of Savanna, Georgia,
recently acquired at an Olympia Coin Club auction.
-
June 8, 2023 - The table topic was South America.
-
May 11, 2023 - The table topic was Plants/Flowers, and the
speaker was Bernus T. on "Misunderstood 1883/2 Shield Nickel." Special
acknowledgements were given to David Edge for doing an excellent job
creating our You Tube Channel and being the club’s official
videographer! And to Jeff Pritchard for speaking at the Central
States Coin Show in Chicago, in conjunction with Newman Numismatic
Portal Educational programming. His topic, "You Can't Take It With
You," addressed estate and tax issues around collecting. The
presentation is available on the NNP. Here is the link:

April 13, 2023 - The table topic was Aviation, and the guest
speaker was Jeff Shevlin, "The So-Called Dollar Guy." For the past
several years, Jeff has been writing new books on So-Called Dollars,
that have expanded the knowledge base of this interesting niche of
numismatics. This meeting was held the evening before the annual PNNA Convention,
also at the Tukwila Community Center. Jeff was a dealer at the show, and customers could order his latest book.
Jeff's presentation was recorded by David Edge: search for "Seattle
Coin Club Presentation - Jeff Shevlin on So-Called Dollars" on YouTube.
