SNS News Summary 2021

All In-Person Meetings Cancelled Until Further Notice Due to COVID-19, except as noted. (Note that meetings at the Tukwila Community Center are still not possible as of the end of 2021.) The club's first virtual meeting via Zoom was held on March 11, 2021.

2021 Meeting Programs:

  • December 9, 2021 in-person meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Angelo’s Restaurant banquet room, 601 SW 153rd St, Burien, WA. Table topic: Weather. This was the club's first in-person meeting since Feb. 2020. The membership voted to continue meeting at Angelo's.

  • November 11, 2021 via Zoom. Table topic: Military. Although there was no main speaker, several interesting items were shown.

  • October 14, 2021 via Zoom. Table topic: Sports.

  • Washington State (Puyallup) Fair. The PNNA was at the Fair Hobby Hall for limited dates and times only in 2021. See the PNNA website Fair page for more information. The PNNA sponsors the annual coin exhibit, with assistance from several local coin clubs including the SNS. No volunteer is knowledgeable about all aspects of numismatics — if your question wasn't answered or if you were unable to attend the Fair, please e-mail your question to info@pnna.org, and it will be directed to a local expert. The PNNA's Hobby Hall coordinator is Rick Schulz.

  • September 9, 2021 via Zoom. Table topic: Fairs and Expositions. There was a brief presentation on HK medals pertaining to this topic.

  • August 12, 2021 via Zoom. Table topic: Automobiles.

  • July 8, 2021 via Zoom. Table topic: Trees.

  • June 10, 2021 via Zoom. Table topic: Couples. Speaker topic: ANA Education Director Rod Gillis, giving his "Money Talks" presentation titled "Strategies to Dispose of Your Collection" (including especially donation options, and how the ANA can use your donation.) This talk is available as an online video on the ANA website.

  • May 13, 2021 via Zoom. Table topic: Mountains. Speaker topic: Rick Schulz, "How to take pictures with a cell phone and show them on Zoom."

  • April 8, 2021 via Zoom. Table topic: Asia. Speaker topic: The Short Snorter Project released a book last year by Thomas J. Sparks titled The Short Snorter Project – Still Keeping the Memories Alive – Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the End of World War II. The link allows you to access the book for free on the Newman Numismatic Portal. Tom covered about the first half of the book in his talk during the SNS meeting. Thanks, Tom!

  • March 11, 2021 via Zoom. Table topic: Flight. Speaker topic: "North Africa WWII silver certificates that lost their gold seals," by Joseph Boling. The meeting was very successful, and we thank Joe for sharing his knowledge about why some gold seal notes were altered to blue seals, and what to look for.

  • No in-person club meetings were held from March 2020 to February 2021.
