SNS News Summary 2015

Meeting Location

SNS meetings are now held in the social room of Queen Anne Manor (basement), 100 Crockett Street, (Queen Anne Hill), Seattle, WA at 7:15 PM on the 3rd Thursday of most months. There are currently no July-August meetings scheduled, and there is an off-site banquet each February.

2015 Meeting Programs:

  • December 17, 2015 club meeting. This meeting featured the annual holiday party and gift exchange.

  • November 19, 2015 club meeting. The speaker was Tim Culbert, and the display topic was "Currency."

  • October 15, 2015 club meeting. The speaker was Mike Zagorin (from Olympia and Tacoma-Lakewood Coin Clubs), and the display topic was "Oh Canada—anything north of the border."

  • Washington State (Puyallup) Fair, September 11-27, 2015. See the PNNA website for more information about the Hobby Hall coin display. The PNNA sponsors the annual coin exhibit in the Hobby Hall, with assistance from several local coin clubs including the SNS. No volunteer is knowledgeable about all aspects of numismatics — if your question wasn't answered or if you were unable to attend the Fair, please e-mail your question to info@pnna.org, and it will be directed to a local expert. The PNNA's Hobby Hall coordinator is Rick Schulz.

  • September 17, 2015 club meeting. The display topic was "Your favorite summer find."

  • June 18, 2015 club meeting. The display topic was "Proofs, Patterns and Specimens," and the speaker was Marc Duvall on "Battle of Waterloo (200th Anniversary) & the Pistrucci medal."

  • May 21, 2015 club meeting. The display topic was "Memorial Day-Military Numismatics," and the speaker was Bernie Turner on the topic of "Shield Nickels."

  • April 16, 2015 club meeting. The display topic was "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles," and the speaker was Steve Campau from the Renton Coin Shop. Steve gave a very informative talk on toning and the different kinds of toning and how they occur.

  • March 19, 2015 club meeting. The display topic was "U.S. Colonial Period," and the speaker was George Moen, "The New Plastic Coinage of Transnistria."

  • February 19, 2015. SNS Annual Club Banquet and White Elephant Auction. Thanks to all those who attended. See banquet page for report.

  • January 15, 2015 club meeting. Congratulations to Greg Bennick, the winner of the annual display run-off. Members could also bring a display on "Your favorite acquisition of 2014." All voted display winners for 2014 were invited to bring back their winning displays for a final showdown. The winner receives bragging rights, a special prize at the February banquet as well as their name engraved on the C.C. Seaman SNS trophy. The speaker was Rick Schulz on the topic of "Irradiated Dimes."
