Meeting Location

SNS meetings are now held in the social room of Queen Anne Manor (basement), 100 Crockett Street, (Queen Anne Hill), Seattle, WA at 7:15 PM on the 3rd Thursday of most months. There are currently no July-August meetings scheduled, and there is an off-site banquet each February.

2013 Meeting Programs:

  • December 19, 2013 club meeting. This meeting featured the club's annual holiday party/potluck and gift exchange.

  • November 21, 2013 club meeting. The display topic was "U.S. Colonial Period," and the speaker was Buell Ish. Buell (and two co-authors) recently published a new reference work on Colonial New Jersey Coppers. He spoke to the club about the book and collecting colonials.

  • October 17, 2013 club meeting. The display topic was "Space (items depicting space related themes)," with Eric Holcomb giving a talk on "Remembering Neil Armstrong."

  • Washington State (Puyallup) Fair – September 6-22, 2013 – The PNNA sponsors the annual coin exhibit in the Hobby Hall, with assistance from several local coin clubs including the SNS. No volunteer is knowledgeable about all aspects of numismatics — if your question wasn't answered or if you were unable to attend the Fair, please e-mail your question to info@pnna.org, and it will be directed to a local expert. The PNNA's Hobby Hall coordinator is Rick Schulz.

  • September 19, 2013 club meeting. The display topic was "Currency." Del Cushing spoke on "Mexican Currency" and how it paralleled the history of the country.

  • Reported by SNS president Scott Loos (September 2013) - I hope everyone had a great summer! Now it is back to our regular monthly meetings. First off, my summer went well. I attended the ANA summer convention in Chicago, Ill. The attendance was moderate and the activity seemed to be down a bit from previous years.

All in all, it was a great showing for the Pacific Northwest: Larry Gaye from the Willamette Coin Club and PNNA received an ANA Presidential award and the ANA medal of Merit; Katie Reinders, also from PNNA and WCC, received ANA YN of the year as well as YN best in show exhibit. Her father, James, received the ANA Outstanding Adult Advisor. SNS’ own Joe Boling received the ANA Exemplary Service Award.

We had our SNS barbeque in early August. Many thanks go out to Dennis Stevens for coordinating and hosting. The food was plentiful, the weather cooperative and the company was delightful.

  • June 20, 2013 club meeting. The display topic was "Your Favorite Coin." Tom Sheehan spoke about "One thing leads to another." One of Tom’s favorite numismatic pursuits is the collecting and study of The Panic Script of 1907. A book on this subject will be coming out in the near future.

  • May 16, 2013 club meeting. The display topic was "Topical collecting—Collecting by subject or theme." Scott brought in two programs and gave us a choice of learning more about Roman Coins or Medieval Coins. We chose the former and saw photos of a number of coins from the Museum of Paris.

  • April 18, 2013 club meeting. The display topic was "Exonumia—Anything other than coins or paper money." Marc Duvall gave an informative talk about how to “Cherry Pick.” At the conclusion, several members engaged in light-hearted banter with similar stories.

  • March 21, 2013 club meeting. The display topic was "Out of Africa: Coins from the African Continent." As reported in the April newsletter, "The talk this evening was given by Bill McKivor, who had a variety of interesting historical items that covered a lot of ground, from 1762 to nearly the present day, many items that have obscure history that were considered quite interesting."

  • February 21, 2013 SNS Annual Club Banquet and Auction.

  • January 17, 2013 club meeting. This was the annual display runoff.
